HATFIELD, Pa.—May 8, 2008—Dental professionals
considering the addition of the i-CAT,
the Leader in Cone Beam 3-D dental imaging, to their practice
now have access to one of the biggest tax benefits offered
to the industry. The Enhanced Section 179 of the IRS Code
allows practitioners to expense the cost of eligible property,
including the i-CAT, in the tax year it’s purchased.
Recent changes to the Code increased the maximum amount that
can be written-off in a single year up to $250,000 of the
equipment value acquired in 2008. This makes the deduction
an attractive option for dental professionals looking to take
their practice to the next level and improve treatment planning
and enhance patient care through Cone Beam 3-D imaging.
“Now is the perfect time for dentists to invest in their
practice by purchasing the i-CAT using Section 179,”
says Chris Scharff, Vice President of Sales for Imaging Sciences
International. “The i-CAT enhances diagnostic accuracy
and improves treatment planning, leading to the most accurate
surgical procedures and enhanced overall patient care. Now,
due to the increased maximum deduction amount within Section
179, the i-CAT purchase can lower taxable income while increasing
productivity and improving patient care in the dental office.”
Section 179 of the IRS Code allows a sole proprietor, partnership,
or corporation to fully expense tangible property in the year
it’s purchased. Taxpayers must elect to take the deduction
on IRS Form 4562, and do so in the tax year the property is
first placed in service. To be eligible for the Section 179
deduction in 2008, dentists should install the i-CAT before
the end of this year. You should consult with your tax adviser
for full details on the program and how you can benefit.
The i-CAT manufactured by Imaging Sciences International produces
anatomically accurate three-dimensional views of all oral
and maxillofacial structures at a lower cost with less radiation
to patients than traditional CT scans. The latest model, the
Next Generation i-CAT, delivers faster scan times, with a
8.9 second standard scan and full anatomical reconstruction
within 30 seconds. This provides near-instant data for the
best possible patient diagnosis, treatment, and surgical predictability.
The Larger Field of View captures anatomically accurate and
detailed cephalometric 3-D images of the entire skull up to
17 cm height and 23 cm diameter.
With the i-CAT, patients are seated in an “open environment
scan” that increases comfort and captures the natural
orientation of anatomy. After data is captured, it’s
transferred to a computer within minutes and displayed on
an intuitive 3-D mapping tool that allows doctors and technicians
to select, format, and rotate desired ‘slices’
of truly accurate anatomical data right on the computer screen.
The complete i-CAT workstation, including machine, computer
station, and access space fits into the same space as a traditional
Panoramic machine.
